I cover the city of Jackson with a particular focus on public safety and quality-of-life issues. My reporting is shaped by the belief that every Jacksonian deserves to live in a thriving, healthy, and safe city. Since moving to Mississippi, I’ve lived in central Jackson and experienced first-hand the challenges that have historically faced our capital city, from undrinkable water to poor housing conditions and a lack of accountability from officials. At Mississippi Today, I aim to help Jacksonians understand what is going on in our city through clear and in-depth reporting.
I joined Mississippi Today in January 2021 to cover higher education and moved to our team covering the city of Jackson in early 2025. Before that, I worked as a fact-checker for national publications including The Nation, Mother Jones, and The Intercept. While working on my bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida, I edited an alternative magazine called The Fine Print. I grew up in Melbourne Beach, Florida, a tiny beach town on the Atlantic Ocean.
As a Mississippi Today journalist, I follow the Society of Professional Journalists' code of ethics, ensuring my reporting is accurate, fair, and independent. I avoid conflicts of interest and decline gifts, money, or favors from those connected to my work. I aim to produce journalism that serves the public good, reflects the truth, and honors the lived experience of Mississippians.
