I cover K–12 education across Mississippi, reporting on schools, students, and the policy decisions that shape our state’s education system. My reporting is rooted in a lifelong connection to Mississippi schools — my parents are both teachers and I grew up in my mom’s classroom. I know firsthand how critical a strong education system is to our state’s success.
I joined Mississippi Today in February 2023 as a health reporter and returned in June 2025 to cover education after a year reporting on national public health for the Associated Press. My journalism career began as an intern at the Neshoba Democrat while I was still in high school. I went on to serve as a reporter and editor at The Daily Mississippian, my college newspaper, before joining Chalkbeat in Newark, New Jersey, to cover K–12 education. I later became a race and social justice reporter at The Charlotte Observer in North Carolina, where I also briefly covered education, and then moved to the Post & Courier’s Education Lab to report on the Charleston County School District in South Carolina. I earned my bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a focus on print, from the University of Mississippi in 2019 and was a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. I was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and grew up in Philadelphia, Mississippi. I now live in Jackson.

I avoid conflicts of interest and decline gifts, money, or favors from those connected to my work. I aim to produce journalism that serves the public good, reflects the truth, and honors the lived experience of Mississippians.
