Bobby Caina Calvan
Senior Editor at Mississippi Today
What I Do
As senior editor of Mississippi Today, I oversee the Jackson team and will collaborate with other editors on major projects. I will also help in mentoring Mississippi Today’s early-career journalists.
My Background
I grew up on dairy farm on the other side of the mountains from Waikiki. I have worked for newsrooms across the country, including a stint at The Associated Press coordinating major news events around the world. Earlier in my AP career, he covered state government and politics in Florida and Montana and worked as a general assignment reporter in New York. I earned a bachelor's degree in legal studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
Journalistic Ethics
As a Mississippi Today journalist, I follow the Society of Professional Journalists' code of ethics, ensuring my reporting is accurate, fair, and independent. I avoid conflicts of interest and decline gifts, money, or favors from those connected to my work. I aim to produce journalism that serves the public good, reflects the truth, and honors the lived experience of Mississippians.
Support My Work
My work is free to consume and republish thanks to contributions from readers like you. A donation in any amount goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
